In August 2020, our Palm Beach County Chapter became aware that City of Delray Beach planned to trim back protected sea grapes so that residents could "have a better view."
The Palm Beach County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation greatly opposes trimming back sea grapes in Delray Beach. Sea grapes provide crucial habitats for shorebirds and numerous species of native wildlife. Sea grape also help to stabilize sand dunes and to protect upland structures from storm-induced erosion. In fact, this plant has been deemed important enough to protect under Florida Statute
